Sculpture, 16 x 29 x 29 cm; bisque fired clay and melaleuca wood
My artwork is a sculptural metaphor: the wood represents the natural world— the basis for all human life, providing shelter and protection. The female figure, representing humankind, adapts to the shape of the wood—her dwelling, her envrionment—and shows her reverence with a kneeling posture. Woman and wood support each other in a caring exchange.
Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.
